Con questo quinto volume di Mazinger Z nell'edizione originale di Go Nagai che d/books vi propone in esclusiva mondiale, assistiamo al passaggio delle avventure del robot da "Shonen Jump" a "TV Magazine". I primi sei episodi sono infatti tratti dal settimanale dell'editore Shueisha, che negli anni ha regalato al pubblico grandi successi come Dragonball, Ken il guerriero e Slam Dunk, e ci presentano una versione delle avventure del robot leggermente diversa da quella che conosciamo attraverso il cartone animato televisivo: il volume si apre con la continuazione dello scontro tra i nostri amici e il conte Blocken, iniziato nel volume precedente, e continua con l'arrivo dell'Armata Mazinger, una possente squadra di robot creata dal professor Yumi per assistere Koji e Sayaka nella loro lotta contro i mostri meccanici del dottor Hell. Ma le novità non finiscono qui: Lolly e Laure, due avvenenti gemelle americane, entrano a far parte del team e Sayaka ha finalmente a sua disposizione un nuovo robot creato per combattere, la seducente Venus Alfa. Gli ultimi due episodi di questo volume sono invece tratti da "TV Magazine", la rivista dell'editore Kodansha rivale di "Shonen Jump" su cui la serie si trasferi' dall'autunno 1973, e costituiscono il fulcro di tutte le edizioni in volumetto pubblicate in Giappone dal 1974 a oggi. Qui ritroviamo avventure più fedeli alla versione televisiva: Sayaka ritorna così a pilotare Afrodite A e numerosi altri elementi grafici e narrativi vengono adattati al cartone animato. Un volume dunque che, oltre a essere godibilisismo in sè, offre anche al lettore nuovi spunti per comprendere come si sviluppò il personaggio di Mazinger Z, capostipite di tutti i robot giapponesi! Vedere per credere!!
