Stephen Murphy is an American comic book writer and editor known for his work on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series. With Michael Zulli, he was co-creator of the critically acclaimed 1980s independent comic The Puma Blues. Alongside fellow Mirage staffer Ryan Brown, he revamped the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures title for Archie Comics, beginning in 1989 with issue #5. In their hands, the comic immediately diverged from the cartoon series into unique new story arcs, often incorporating social, environmentalist, and animal rights themes. It also introduced several new characters of various races and backgrounds, including humans, mutants, aliens, and other anthropomorphic creatures. The stories were often seen as “deeper” and more “serious” than the cartoon. During that period, Stephen co-created the characters Jagwar, Nova Posse, Snake-Eyes, and Sarnath; he united several of the series’ recurring characters as a separate team, the Mighty Mutanimals. He wrote the majority of his work on TMNT Adventures under the name Dean Clarrain.

He is credited among other contemporary writers with bringing horror comics back to prominence.Bernie Wrightson (1948–2017) was an American artist known for his horror illustrations and comic books. He received training in art from reading comics, particularly those of EC, as well as through a correspondence course from the Famous Artists School. His first professional comic work appeared in House of Mystery #179 in 1968. He went on to work on a variety of mystery and anthology titles for both DC and its principal rival, Marvel. In 1971, with writer Len Wein, Wrightson co-created the muck creature Swamp Thing for DC. He also co-created Destiny, later to become famous in the work of Neil Gaiman. He worked on Spider-Man, Batman, and The Punisher and provided painted covers for the DC comics Nevermore and Toe Tags, among many others. Later works include Frankenstein Alive, Alive; Dead She Said; The Ghoul; and Doc Macabre (IDW Publishing), all co-created with horror author Steve Niles.

Kevin Eastman was born in 1962 in Portland, Maine. He began drawing as soon as he was able to hold a crayon. His discovery of comic books gave meaning to his crazed doodling. When he discovered and studied the work of Jack Kirby, Russ Heath, Richard Corben, Vaughn Bodé, and John Severin, he began to hone his craft. His first published work appeared in 1980, a year or so before he met Peter Laird. In May 1984, he and Laird published Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1, creating the hit Heroes in a Half Shell.
