Writer Ryan North went the self-publishing route to launch his comics career with Dinosaur Comics, which has run for more than 2,000 web-based strips. He describes it as basically the best job ever. In 2012, he was tapped by BOOM! Studios to write its new Adventure Time series based on the popular cartoon. His Marvel debut came in 2014 when he penned the Young Avengers chapters of Original Sins. North propelled an unlikely character to solo title success with the Eisner Award-winning series The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl and took Lockjaw solo in the pages of Inhumans: Once and Future Kings. He rewrote the Shakespeare rulebook with Romeo and/or Juliet: A Chooseable-Path Adventure.Chip Zdarsky became well-known as the artist of the award-winning Sex Criminals and the writer of Kaptara, both from Image Comics. Howard the Duck was his first Marvel series, soon followed by books including Marvel 2-in-One and Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man. He is also known for his work on Nightwing, Green Arrow and Teen Titans for DC Comics, and James Bond: Black Box for Dynamite Entertainment. Percy wrote two seasons of Marvel’s Wolverine podcast series: Wolverine: The Long Night, which was listed as one of the top fifteen podcasts of the year by Apple and won the iHeart Radio Award for best scripted podcast in 2018, and Wolverine: The Lost Trail. In print, he was a key contributor to the X-Men’s Krakoan Era as writer of X-Force and Wolverine. Percy blazed a new trail for the Spirit of Vengeance with his deliciously dark revival of Ghost Rider and pitted some of Marvel’s greatest heroes against the iconic movie hunters, the Predators. After the mash-up concept Hellverine proved a smash hit in Percy’s Wolverine/Ghost Rider: Weapons of Vengeance crossover, the writer launched a Hellverine limited series followed by an ongoing series — with Wolverine’s son, Akihiro, assuming the mantle. For Marvel, he has worked on War Machine, Spider-Man and the X-Men, Nova and the James Patterson adaptation Max Ride: Ultimate Flight. Silva’s Powers of X collaboration with writer Jonathan Hickman established him as a comics superstar, a status confirmed by his subsequent work on Fantastic Four and Captain America: Symbol of Truth.Italian artist Valerio Schiti’s first work for Marvel Comics was “Sacrifice,” a short story appearing in 2011’s Ghost Rider #1. He then moved to Marvel, becoming one of the most recognizable and innovative talents in comics. Ramos brought his kinetic artwork to the pages of Extraordinary X-Men and Champions, as well as a magical collaboration with Skottie Young on Strange Academy.Michael Dowling proved his skills on the UK comic book institutions 2000 AD and Judge Dredd Megazine, and is now winning fans across the Atlantic at Marvel. In addition to Black Cat, he has illustrated Amazing Spider-Man and the limited series Jane Foster and the Mighty Thor.Multitalented Geoff Shaw is a professional sequential artist, sculptor, concept designer and illustrator. He has enjoyed a fruitful professional relationship with writer Donny Cates on God Country for Image Comics and Thanos for Marvel. In writer Orson Scott Card’s Ultimate Iron Man II, Ferry brought out the bleeding-edge dynamism of Iron Man’s armor. He was also writer Mike Carey’s art partner on Ultimate Fantastic Four. Growing up in Tulsa, Oklahoma, writer Allan Heinberg spent his childhood watching such super-hero staples as TV’s Superfriends and the ’60s Batman. As an adult, his writing career took him to Los Angeles, where he got his break writing for the Tea Leoni sitcom The Naked Truth on NBC. His success on the show led to work on a number of top-rated series — including Party of Five, Sex and the City and Gilmore Girls. He wrote and produced The O.C., a blockbuster dramatic series that showcased Heinberg’s interest in comic books and his admiration for many contemporary comics creators through the show’s main character. Heinberg’s love of the Marvel Universe as evidenced on The O.C. attracted the attention of Marvel Comics’ then-Editor in Chief Joe Quesada, who invited the TV writer to develop his first Marvel project, Young Avengers. The series was an unexpected critical and commercial hit that was nominated for Best New Series in both the Eisner and Harvey awards, in addition to earning an Eisner nomination for Heinberg as Best Writer. Young Avengers also won a GLAAD Media Award for its intelligent and thoughtful handling of gay characters on an ongoing basis. Heinberg has also written a relaunch of DC’s Wonder Woman and a JLA story arc with Geoff Johns, and served as screenwriter for the 2017 Wonder Woman movie. On TV, he has served as writer, executive producer, co-executive producer, consulting producer and creative consultant on Grey’s Anatomy.Artist Jim Cheung began his association with Marvel Comics in the 1990s, drawing titles such as Black Knight, Force Works, Iron Man, Maverick and an extensive run on X-Force. Jim Lee is perhaps today’s hottest comic-book artist. Since the late ’80s, his work for Marvel, DC and Image — the company he helped found — has set trends that survive to this day. After honing his skills with memorable runs on Alpha Flight and Punisher War Journal, Lee rose to prominence on Uncanny X-Men. Lee then revamped the mutant team’s look and helped launch the second X-Men series, whose first issue remains one of the best-selling comic books of all time. Also renowned as an editor on both long-running and short-lived series, Jo Duffy has written runs of Power Man and Iron Fist, Marvel Team-Up, Wolverine and others. In addition, she regularly penned Marvel’s adaptations of Star Wars, Conan the Barbarian and Akira. Duffy wrote the New Mutants tie-in miniseries Fallen Angels and cowrote several Speedball stories from Steve Ditko’s plots. Her later work includes DC’s Catwoman and Image’s Glory.Bill Mantlo began his Marvel career on Deadly Hands of Kung Fu, in which he introduced White Tiger, one of the industry’s earliest Hispanic super heroes. Eventually writing stories for almost every Marvel title, he did some of his most fondly remembered work on Incredible Hulk and Spectacular Spider-Man. He also created Rocket Raccoon, launched Cloak & Dagger in a pair of miniseries and guided Alpha Flight through some of its most harrowing ordeals. Mantlo excelled at integrating licensed properties into the Marvel Universe, as demonstrated by Micronauts and Rom, both of which he wrote from start to finish. At DC, he wrote the Invasion miniseries for one of the company’s biggest crossover events.After a start as inker to his older brother John, Sal Buscema penciled Captain America, Defenders, Incredible Hulk and more. Famed for his ability to meet tight deadlines, he spread his talents across multiple genres. His 1970s work ranged from Ms. Marvel and Nova to Sub-Mariner and Spider-Woman’s first appearance in Marvel Spotlight. He was the uninterrupted artist on Spectacular Spider-Man for more than a hundred issues and penciled the web-slinger’s adventures in Marvel Team-Up, in which he and writer Bill Mantlo introduced Captain Jean DeWolff. After handling more team-ups in the Thing’s Marvel Two-in-One, he reunited with brother John on Steve Englehart’s Fantastic Four. He later provided inks for Tom DeFalco’s Spider-Girl titles and Thunderstrike miniseries.His place in Marvel history assured when he helped introduce Deathlok in the pages of Astonishing Tales, Rich Buckler also penciled several storylines in Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man — along with runs on Jungle Action’s Black Panther, Fantastic Four, Thor and other monthly titles, as well as Roy Thomas’s miniseries Saga of the Sub-Mariner and Saga of the Original Human Torch. Buckler’s 1970s DC work includes Lois Lane, Secret Society of Super-Villains and World’s Finest, as well as the groundbreaking Superman vs. Shazam. During the 1980s, he and Thomas collaborated on All-Star Squadron. He worked in the barbarian and horror genres for both Marvel and DC, illustrated Archie’s Mighty Crusaders, and contributed to black-and-white magazines for both Marvel and Warren Publishing. He was editor of the short-lived Solson Publications and wrote two books on comic-book art.

Writer/artist Larry Hama got his start as a penciler before becoming a respected editor and later a writer during the ’80s with his career-defining work on G.I. Joe and a memorable run on Wolverine. Through the years, Hama proved his versatility writing Avengers, Blaze, Elektra, Generation X, The Punisher: War Zone and multiple Venom miniseries.
