Quando ci vuole, ci vuole. E per questo numero di Tutto Rat-Man ci vuole eccome. Che cosa ci vuole? Ci vuole un bel “Capolavoro”. Essì, ci vuole proprio. In questo numero infatti sono raccolti i numeri di Rat-Man 61 (“Era Mio Padre”) e 62 (“299”) e tutti e due, per motivi diversi, meritano quella parola un po’ impegnativa. O almeno mettono il dubbio. “Era Mio Padre” è un racconto davvero unico nella produzione di Ortolani. Da un lato si inserisce pienamente nella complessa continuity della serie, con flashback ambientati nel passato remoto e remotissimo di Rat-Man, e rivelazioni cruciali su Rat-Boy, Piccettino e la figura certamente malvagia ma anche controversa di Janus Valker. Dall’altro, la tecnica è quella dell’Ortolani più maturo, con inserti surreal-demenziali al limite del sublime, con esiti comici di altissimo livello (cfr. “Piero della Gigetta, detto ‘il Ricalcone’” et alia). Su “299” non c’è davvero molto da dire: è solo la prima parte di una lunga storia, la seconda sarà pubblicata in dicembre su Tutto Rat-Man 33 e si chiama “+1”. I più acuti avranno già capito che il titolo intero è “299+1” e i più ferrati in questioni aritmetiche avranno anche capito chi è finito nel mirino delle pseudo-parodie di Leo, questa volta. E in ogni caso, preparatevi per la gloria! (immagine)

.oddio, che emozione (sì l’abbiamo già detto ma è vero anche stavolta), ci risiamo. Sembrava ieri (estate 2004) che in edicola uscivano i numeri 43 e 44 di RAT-MAN, e non erano due numeri qualsiasi. Si intitolavano “Un Classico del Fumetto” e “Kina!” ed erano gli ultimi due di quella che ancora prima di essere conclusa si era guadagnata sul campo il sobrio appellativo di “quadrilogia di Dio”. Qualifica che deve non solo al contenuto (correre a leggere, please) ma anche a un incredibile gradimento tributato da subito da (come si suol dire) pubblico e critica. Cioè, in sostanza, da tutti. E se il secondo titolo è un po’ più criptico e richiede (di nuovo...) che corriate a leggere, il primo non solo è un gran titolo ma anche sacrosantamente autoreferenziale. Perché più “instant classic” di così Ortolani non poteva metterla insieme, una quadrilogia. Cioè – spieghiamo le cose un po’ più per benino – una lunga storia in quattro parti di cui avete letto le prime due sullo scorso numero di “Tutto Rat-Man” e di cui leggete le ultime due su questo. Perché “Tutto Rat-Man” serve proprio a questo: a ristampare ogni quattro mesi (questo numero esce in agosto, il prossimo in dicembre, quello dopo ancora nell’aprile del 2007 e così via), a due a due, i numeri arretrati di RAT-MAN la serie scritta e disegnata da Leo Ortolani, ormai la definizione stessa di “culto” nel fumetto italiano. Tutto è bene quel che finisce bene, anche se finisce troppo presto. Come la tradizionale serie annuale di uscite di RAT-MAN COLOR SPECIAL, in giugno, agosto e ottobre. Troppo presto come sempre, ma bene, anzi benissimo, perché le due storie di questo numero autunnale sono due storie davvero d’annata come RAT-MAN 1999 e EX-MEN! (entrambe del 1999, e almeno per la prima era doveroso). Che già dal titolo dovrebbero dirla lunga sugli argomenti e sull’inesauribile capacità di Leo Ortolani – l’autore di rat-Man, per chi fosse appena tornato da Altair IV, con gli effetti spazio-temporal-relativistici del caso – di attingere all’Immaginario Fantastico per ricavarne non semplice parodie ma spassose rielaborazioni che della parodia conservano alcuni tratti, come la riconoscibilità del modello originale. E a storie con qualche anno sulle spalle – il segno già inconfondibile di Leo nel frattempo è molto cambiato – la versione reload di questo RAT-MAN COLOR SPECIAL dona ancora di più: colori nuovi di trinca, spettacolari ma sempre rispettosi della storia e mai inutilmente sgargianti, firmati com’è ormai tradizione consolidata dai veterano Gian Luca Raimondi e Lorenzo Ortolani. Ancora una volta – come tutti i mesi pari – i numeri ormai mitici e superesauriti di “Rat-Man”, la serie dedicata al celebre personaggio di Leo Ortolani. Questo mese tocca ai numeri 27 e 28 e a due strepitose avventure entrate giustamente nella Top-10 di tantissimi lettori. Stiamo parlando di “Ex-Men” e “La Mummia”, due esilaranti rivisitazioni in puro Ortolani-style di due miti dell’immaginario fantastico. Quali? Be’, se non è abbastanza chiaro dal titolo, il minimo che vi tocchi è comprare l’albo; se invece l’avete capito, be’, pure. Mica vorrete fare senza, no? Senza contare che con “La Mummia” Ortolani realizza un’esilarante team-up con un altro dei suoi grandi successi personali, quel “Venerdì 12” recentemente giunto al capolinea (ma sarà vero...?) e che ha sempre raccolto consensi entusiasti tra tutti i lettori. Senza contare che siccome “Tutto Rat-Man” è la raccolta integrale di “Rat-Man”, di “Venerdì 12”, ci trovate pure gli episodi normali. Senza contare che ci sta pure “L’ultima Burba”.
