From Silva Screen Records! The first archive release of a Doctor Who soundtrack since the Doctor Who 2005 British TV comeback, featuring music by British electronic composer Roger Limb. The Caves of Androzani was Roger Limb's seventh of eight contributions to the series, and the first of his two very successful collaborations with director Graeme Harper. Broadcast in March 1984, the 4 episodes showed the regeneration of The Fifth Doctor (Peter Davison) into The Sixth Doctor (Colin Baker). From Dual Planet. A collection of Horror-Electronics, supernatural soundscapes and sinister library muzak from Australian composer Don Harper. Centering on a previously unreleased score for the 1968 Doctor Who series The Invasion (a dark otherworldly sci-fi jazz suite), Cold Worlds is also a focus on the electronic music of this largely unsung composer. Like many Australian film composers (Ron Grainer, Dudley Simpson, Don Banks) Don Harper based himself in the UK during the 1960s and subsequently found employment at the BBC and other British film and library companies. Probably best known for his BBC scores for World of Sport, Sexton Blake and The Inside Man, Harper also immersed himself in the world of electronics. Acknowledged as a virtuoso jazz violinist, he notably produced a 1974 electronic/altered jazz session for Lansdowne Studios titled Homo Electronicus (featuring Norma Winstone and other progressive UK jazz musicians). In addition to cutting a number of library sessions for Joseph Weinburger's Impress label, in which several tracks were later famously sampled by MF Doom, he also co-wrote the music (alongside Delia Derbyshire and David Vorhaus) for the essential Radiophonic KPM recording Electrosonic. From Hitchcock Media. Original film score from the composer of People Under the Stairs and Knight Rider! The next one up in our series of releases from Don Peake is his classic score to Wes Craven's cult film 'The Hills Have Eyes'. Assembled and produced by the composer himself, this album features the entire score and a specially added bonus: The track slates of the individual cues! These short communications between stage and booth make the listener feel as if he were right at the recording session. The score is very eerie, and you might want to keep the lights on... Excerpts from the liner notes by Don Peake: 'In 1977, Wes Craven hired me to score a very dark horror film entitled 'The Hills Have Eyes'. I was immediately struck with the brutality of the characters, and I decided to create a sparse and disturbing score, utilizing both acoustic instruments and a few experimental electronic instruments. I used 'The Beam', a long aluminum channel (about 10 feet), strung with a single wire. The player (Craig Huntley) would slide a piece of steel up the wire string, creating a long glissando. I also had the prop master deliver the bone necklaces that the actors wore in the movie, to the scoring stage. I used these bones as shakers for the chase scenes. The percussionists each had a necklace to play. Mike Lang played the wild piano part for the interior search of the trailer.
