Film director and screenwriter Greg Pak’s first feature, the sci-fi anthology Robot Stories, won 35 awards; he broke into the comics industry when his agent sent Marvel the screenplay. After writing a Warlock reboot, Pak made a splash with the X-Men: Phoenix — Endsong limited series and a lengthy run on Incredible Hulk, highlighted by the “Planet Hulk” storyline and the World War Hulk crossover. In addition to the acclaimed Magneto: Testament and Red Skull: Incarnate limited series, a War Machine revival and the retitled Incredible Hulks, Pak has written Dynamite’s Battlestar Galactica and contributed to Secret Identities: The Asian American Superhero Anthology. His efforts with co-writer Fred Van Lente include Incredible Hercules, Herc, Heroic Age: Prince of Power, an Alpha Flight relaunch and the Chaos War crossover. Pak introduced Amadeus Cho as a new Green Goliath in The Totally Awesome Hulk and delivered mutant mayhem in Weapon X.Filipino artist Carlo Pagulayan’s earliest Marvel work came on titles such as New X-Men: Academy X, X-Men Unlimited and Marvel Adventures Fantastic Four. His knack for drawing beautiful women earned him longer runs on Elektra and Emma Frost before a dramatic switch to Incredible Hulk, for which he illustrated the fan-favorite “Planet Hulk” storyline. Besides drawing titles including Agents of Atlas, Hulk and Iron Man, Pagulayan has also ventured into three dimensions, sculpting a Planet Hulk mini-bust for Bowen Designs.

Joe Kelly broke into Marvel in 1997, adding his own style of irreverence to Deadpool and turning the title into a cult sensation. After runs on Daredevil and X-Men, Kelly departed for DC Comics, where he delivered award-winning work on Action Comics and Superboy. He subsequently returned to Marvel, collaborating with the “Spider-Man Brain Trust” and penning several memorable arcs on Amazing Spider-Man. Kelly combined the two Marvel characters with which he is most closely associated in the riotous team-up series Spider-Man/Deadpool. Along with several fellow comic creators, Kelly established Man of Action, the studio that has produced the Ben 10 animated series.John Romita Jr. is a modern-day comic-art master, following in his legendary father’s footsteps. Timeless runs on Iron Man, Uncanny X-Men, Amazing Spider-Man and Daredevil established him as his own man artistically, and his work on Wolverine and World War Hulk is among the most explosive comic art of the 21st century. In addition to Eternals with writer Neil Gaiman, JRJR teamed with Mark Millar on the creator-owned Kick-Ass, later developed into a blockbuster feature film starring Nicolas Cage. Spidey fans rejoiced at the artist’s return to Amazing Spider-Man with the “Brand New Day” storylines “New Ways To Die” and “Character Assassination.” He later helped relaunch Avengers with writer Brian Michael Bendis and Captain America with Rick Remender, and contributed to the blockbuster crossover Avengers vs. X-Men. For DC Comics, he drew big-name characters such as Superman, Batman and the Suicide Squad before making a welcome return home to Marvel and Amazing Spider-Man.Artist Mike Deodato Jr. was already a renowned illustrator in his native Brazil when he got his big break in American comics in 1994, illustrating DC’s Wonder Woman. For Marvel, he drew such series as Avengers, Elektra, Spider-Man and Incredible Hulk. After refining his inimitable style on the creator-owned Jade Warriors, he returned to Marvel for a second turn on Incredible Hulk, with writer Bruce Jones, and a stint on J. Michael Straczynski’s Amazing Spider-Man. Deodato has forged an association with the Avengers on various titles — including collaborations with Brian Michael Bendis, Ed Brubaker and Jonathan Hickman — and demonstrated his superstar status on the event book Original Sin. Deodato joined writer Jeff Lemire in exploring one of Marvel's greatest villains in Thanos.

Award-winning comic-book creator Brian Michael Bendis is one of the most successful writers in the industry today. In addition to an acclaimed run on Daredevil, he has helmed a renaissance for Marvel’s popular Avengers franchise and written the event projects House of M, Secret War, Secret Invasion, Siege, Age of Ultron and Civil War II. Bendis wrote every issue of Ultimate Spider-Man from its launch in 2000 before bringing his multiracial Spider-Man, Miles Morales, to the Marvel Universe for continuing adventures. He took on Marvel’s mutants in the pages of All-New X-Men and Uncanny X-Men, and launched Guardians of the Galaxy into the stratosphere. Bendis shook up the life of Tony Stark in Invincible Iron Man and related titles, introducing Riri Williams as Ironheart, and then assembled street-level heroes Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Daredevil and his co-creation Jessica Jones in Defenders. His creator-owned projects include Scarlet with Alex Maleev, Brilliant with Mark Bagley, and Takio and the Eisner Award-winning Powers with Michael Avon Oeming.Winning the Russ Manning Award for Best New Talent in 1997, Bulgarian-born Alex Maleev first worked with Brian Michael Bendis on Image’s Sam & Twitch. In 2001, the pair teamed again on Daredevil in a gritty, acclaimed collaboration that earned them a 2003 Eisner Award for Best Continuing Series. Furthering his partnership with Bendis, Maleev has illustrated the New Avengers: Illuminati, Civil War: The Confession and Secret Invasion: Dark Reign one-shots; the Halo: Uprising limited series; the Spider-Woman print and motion comics; and the creator-owned Scarlet. The pair turned Tony Stark's world upside down in International Iron Man and its successor series Infamous Iron Man.

Following stints at AC Comics and Eclipse, Erik Larsen replaced fan-favorite Todd McFarlane on Amazing Spider-Man and quickly became a legend in his own right, chronicling Spidey’s cosmic-powered and powerless phases. His other Marvel credits include Defenders, Fantastic Four, Nova and Wolverine. At DC, he has penciled Doom Patrol, Outsiders, Teen Titans and others. Larsen’s greatest fame may be as creator of Savage Dragon at Image Comics, which he helped found and where he served as publisher for four years.Springing from the fertile ground of the U.K. comics scene, Warren Ellis came to Marvel during the early ’90s and proved his iconoclastic mettle in the ultra-edgy series Hellstorm and the limited series Druid — followed by fondly remembered extended runs on Excalibur and Doom 2099. After making a name for himself as a premier talent with Wildstorm’s Stormwatch, Transmetropolitan, The Authority and Planetary, Ellis returned to Marvel to pen Ultimate Fantastic Four, the Ultimate Galactus Trilogy, Iron Man and more. His Nextwave: Agents of H.A.T.E. was both a critical smash and a cult favorite. In addition to reviving the 1980s New Universe in newuniversal and writing Thunderbolts, Ellis took over Astonishing X-Men following Joss Whedon and John Cassaday’s departure, and penned perhaps the definitive story of the Armored Avenger in Iron Man’s “Extremis.” In addition, he offered a distinctively memorable new take on Moon Knight. His Wildstorm miniseries Red was adapted into a hit movie in 2010. Ellis broke into prose fiction with Crooked Little Vein and his New York Times best-selling novel Gun Machine.A copy of How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way sparked Leinil Francis Yu’s interest in comics when he was 11. Whilce Portacio’s tutelage helped him land his first mainstream comics work on Wolverine in 1997. Following a successful run, Yu took on such titles as Uncanny X-Men, X-Men, Superman: Birthright and Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk. After an extended period laying the groundwork in New Avengers, he and writer Brian Michael Bendis turned the Marvel Universe upside down with Secret Invasion, and the Marvel mainstay has subsequently worked on event comics including Avengers & X-Men: Axis and IVX, and such blockbuster titles as Star Wars.Milestone co-founder Denys Cowan’s comic-book career began on backup features: White Tiger in Spectacular Spider-Man and Firestorm in DC’s Flash. At Marvel, he moved on to pencil Power Man and Iron Fist, a Black Panther miniseries and Moon Knight: Divided We Fall, among other projects. Back at DC, he specialized in such urban heroes as Green Arrow, Question and Steel; he also penciled multiple miniseries, including Batman: The Ultimate Evil, Fight for Tomorrow and Total Justice. In the TV field, he produced episodes of Milestone spinoff Static Shock and comic strip tie-in The Boondocks, subsequently becoming senior vice president of animation for Black Entertainment Television.

Lobdell scripted Stan Lee’s animated film Mosaic and has performed as a stand-up comedian.A veteran of the American comics scene, Ben Raab has worked both sides of the desk as both an editor — in print and online — and a freelance writer. Some of his more notable writing credits include such pop-culture icons as The X-Men, Green Lantern, Superman, Wonder Woman, Teen Titans, Hawkman and The Phantom. In 2004, he co-created Living in Infamy — a four-issue miniseries about a Witness Protection town for reformed super villains — which was published independently through Ludovico Technique. In 2006, Raab began working in New Media as a writer/web-content producer on such online series as Afterworld and Gemini Division. Since 2008, Raab — along with his writing partner, Deric A. Hughes — has served as a writer on Syfy's highest-rated scripted drama, Warehouse 13.After his scintillating debut on Uncanny X-Men while barely out of his teens, Joe Madureira immediately joined the ranks of fan-favorite artists like Jim Lee and Marc Silvestri. His innovative character designs and explosive layouts attracted a huge following during the ’90s, and his popularity reached a fever pitch after his work on "Age of Apocalypse" and "Onslaught" helped transform the Marvel Universe. After developing the creator-owned Battle Chasers for Wildstorm, he left comics for the video-game industry. He made a triumphant return to Marvel with writer Jeph Loeb’s Ultimates 3, later launching Avenging Spider-Man with Zeb Wells and joining Charles Soule on Inhuman.
